What to Do Before Doing an Exploratory Research Paper Topic
What to Do Before Doing an Exploratory Research Paper TopicHow would you approach a topic for an exploratory research paper? That is a question I have asked myself and others on numerous occasions. And the answer, unfortunately, is that you would likely not. However, there are things you can do to make sure your project does not end up being a disaster. Before doing exploratory research paper topics for the first time, I was quite fearful of my ability to write a clear, concise outline for the project. The reason for this fear is that I had never written before. I had never been in this situation where the writing part of the job seemed so scary to me. I had no idea how to plan a project from the beginning to the end. I felt if I had to read my project out loud it would be impossible.Fortunately, I soon realized that my fears were unfounded with exploratory research paper topics. I did not have to read it out loud, and I knew exactly what my project was supposed to accomplish before I began writing it.It took a bit of trial and error, but I eventually came up with a good project outline. In the initial stage of planning, it was important to make a big picture map of the entire project. Just starting with a list of topic areas was not enough. I would need to begin to work in this map as well.I knew the key to creating an outline for my project would be by focusing on the subject matter. I had no real clue how to figure this out since I had no real background in this area. I also had no idea what subjects were popular, which ones had already been done, or which ones were 'hot' topics. When I finally figured this out, I then had to begin building a knowledge base. This allowed me to dig down into the subject matter and find all the examples I needed. It was very helpful to have the examples right at my fingertips!Once I had a basic understanding of the subject matter, I then started to move forward with the assignment. I decided to do the research myself, but I did spend some time doing some research with my classmates. I read online sources, I called and emailed colleagues, and I discussed the assignment with my supervisors. In most cases, my supervisors would suggest topics that were in my area of expertise, which I could easily incorporate into my project. Finally, I accomplished the project by writing the paper, sending it to my supervisor, and reviewing it. That was a project I will never forget!
